Description
A maritime partnership between Australia and Ireland is celebrated in a philatelic rarity produced by Australia Post and An Post. Maritime Links – Australia and Ireland honours the Polly Woodside, which began its seafaring life in Ireland and now belongs to the National Trust of Australia (Victoria). Both postal administrations had been working separately on designs featuring the Polly Woodside, and it seemed only fitting that both stamp designs should be brought together on a joint miniature sheet for Australia 99.
The Australian Polly Woodside 45c stamp is one of a set of four stamps to be released by Australia Post on 19 March in the Sailing Ships of Australia stamp issue. The An Post Polly Woodside 30p stamp to be issued on 17 March shows an illustration by Vincent Killowry.
