Description[edit]

The iconic, festive symbolism of the tree and star predates their use in Christian celebrations making these designs welcome heralds of the holiday season. The design’s universal appeal will be welcome wherever their message of peace and goodwill is sent.

This issue is part of the Greetings series. It was also issued with "personalized" tabs in sheets of 20 plus 20 tabs.

From ancient times the tree has symbolised new life and fertility. Since the twelfth century fir trees have been used to celebrate Christmas.

The star is a universal symbol of hope and optimism. In a Christian context, the star symbolises the star of Bethlehem which guided the Magi to the Christ child.
