From Stamps of the World

The printing house Hélio-Vaugirard SA was located in the 15th arrondissement in Paris and has created important works for philately with its gravure printing products. This workshop produced the first French stamp in this printing technique. The joint stock company was founded on June 30, 1897. The name of the company points to the then emerging printing technology: With the invention of photogravure at the end of the 19th century, companies such as John Wood in England and Bruckmann in Munich pioneered this technique. A little later, the company specialized in this technology and became one of the most influential stamp printers of this era.
