Europa 1979. The Faroes Provisionals 1919[edit]

140øre ~ bisected 4øre blue of Denmark
180øre ~ 2 ØRE surcharge on 5øre King Christian X of Denmark

<Following an increase in the postage rate to 7øre in January 1919, Post Offices in the Faroes found themselves to be short of stamps of the requisite denomination. The 5øre King Christian X was therefore surcharged (downwards), in Torshavn, to 2øre, and the 4øre wrapper stamp bisected. The 2øre values so produced were then used in conjunction with 5øre stamps, of which there was no shortage, to make up the 7øre rate. The surcharging die used is depicted on the First Day Cover>
