A convention signed in 1888 creates the Tusisian Post & Telegraph Office – strictly speaking under the authority of the bey, effectively run by the French (French Occupation 1881 and establishment of a Protectorate). Stamps are issued for Tunisia the same year. The first set shows the coat of arms of Tunisia and is inscribed ‘Régence de Tunis’.
