Creating a page

Once you are sure the page does not exist you can type in the title of the page in the search box and then click the search button - it will now have the option to create the new page. Please follow the standards for new pages. COUNTRY YEAR TITLE .

Take a look at http://www.stampsoftheworld.co.uk/wiki/Help:Add_New_Stamps for some more info.

All pages must belong to a minimum of two categories - its country and the year. Click edit on any of the pages on the wiki to get an idea of the contents of a standard page.

Page so far

The page is looking good so far -

Some pointers :

  • add the country and year categories at the start - it will make it easier finding the page later on
    • Add and at the bottom of the page
  • You can leave the stamp label out if it is not necessary - on the Guinea page I don't think each stamp needs to have the label as the set name will do.
  • You can also leave the word Value: out and just put the denomination - it was in the help file as an example.

I will keep monitoring the page and give you tips as we go along.

Sort Order

You will notice the page now sits in the Guinea category under "G"

This is because it has not been given an order. Each set is given an order number or date to show when during the year it was issued. You are correct in adding the Country category as below.

To give it the correct order change this to

Replace the 00 with the correct number. So if it is the 3rd set in 1972 then this number will be 03 and if its the 7th set 07. It is also important to have a space between | and the year.

Perfect - Sort order is correct

That is exactly right - now that denotes this is the first set in 1972 and shows up correctly in the country page.

Nav_Swaziland

I have added the rest of the years for Swaziland. You can find the navigation portions of the country page on their respective nav templates. Swazilands can be found at http://www.stampsoftheworld.co.uk/wiki/Template:Nav_Swaziland

Generally the rule is Template:Nav_CountryName - You can see the code for the above page on how it is set out. It seems scary but it is basically the same code copied for each year.

Naval Postmarks

Hi Kges, sometimes its not possible to allocate a city as the postmarks for ships were sometimes during war of a non-descript nature. But if it is known where the ship was sailing from like Brazil http://www.stampsoftheworld.co.uk/wiki/Brazil_Ship_Postmarks_%28BR%29 then you can create a country postmark page for them. The UPU posting rules state that the stamps of the next port of call (Receiving) could be used OR the stamps of the flag the ship was sailing under, so I guess its a matter of finding this out. In general go with the country stamp and create the country ship page. If there is a port mentioned, you should allocate it to both the country and the town pages. --Ian G (talk) 11:35, 25 July 2014 (BST) Can I just add that if you are on Facebook, then we have a group there called 'Postmarks of the world' https://www.facebook.com/groups/376842965700915/?fref=nf, where we have a chat function for wiki users as well as to ask questions and post discuss images etc.
