Maloyan and 100 of his priests and many followers were executed on June 10-11, 1915, Maloyan in person by the Mardin Police Chief. Narek was proclaimed a Doctor of the Universal Church by Pope Francis in April 2015, during a ceremony in remembrance of the 1915 Armenian massacres
