Weesp is a town and a municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It had a population of 18,255 in 2014. Weesp lies next to the rivers de Vecht and Smal Weesp and also next to the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. It is in an area called the "Vechtstreek". It is only 3 km from the end of the Amsterdam metro, but the wide Amsterdam-Rhine Canal keeps it geographically separate. The town is surrounded by open grassland.

Postmark Examples[edit]

Letter Card sent from MUIDEN (9 DEC 1881) via WEESP (10 DEC 1881) in the Netherlands to Dutch East Indies via Napels (Italy). It arrived in WELTEVREDEN (in Batavia) (18 Jan 1882) on the island Java and was redirected to Soebang where it arrived on 20 Jan 1882). Also included is a hardly readible arrival cancel of Poerwakarta (20....1882). Courtesy of Jan Boon.
Postmark Weesp, 24 october 1990, as used by the "Filatelieloket" (=philatelic counter in the post office). The illustration in the cancel shows a bridge in the center of the town, built in 1674.
