  • Info: The Volunteer Legion Netherlands was a name for Dutch people who wanted to fight for Nazi Germany during World War II against the Bolsheviks in Eastern Europe (Russia). An estimated 20 to 25 thousand Dutch people actually fought in Eastern Europe.

On November 1, 1942, two postage stamps were issued with a supplement for the benefit of the legion, the so-called Legion stamps. They were sold until February 28, 1943 and were valid until December 31, 1943. The 7½ cent red stamp had a 2½ cent supplement, the 12½ cent blue stamp had an 87½ cent supplement. More than 1 million single copies of the red stamp were sold and 131,000 sheets of 10 stamps, of the blue stamp more than 500,000 single copies were sold and 121,000 sheets of 4 copies.
